Elizabeth Groat (She/Her/Hers)
Registered Provisional Psychologist

The nature of human existence is that no matter how hard one endeavours to avoid difficulties, everyone will experience challenging times, thoughts, feelings, emotions and pain. Through this reality, I feel that people can embrace their inner wisdom and cultivate the life they hope to live despite the broad range of human emotions we must all navigate. By identifying one’s inner strengths to engage in life meaningfully, people can experience a more intentional and richer existence, fulfilling their innate desire to live their best life even when they face hardships.

Approach

My therapeutic approach is both behaviourally and cognitively oriented, focusing on harnessing one’s most powerful sources of coping and resilience. Through this, I have found that many individuals thrive and embrace life utilizing the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or ACT in tandem with self-compassion guidance. Additionally, to support healing and growth in desired domains, I endeavour to provide a multidisciplinary approach tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. Such perspectives include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Client-Centred Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Somatic Experience approaches. Moreover, I value that we are all experts in managing our own lives, and our work together is a partnership rooted in equality and collaboration. Finally, I am committed to supporting diversity and inclusion for all.
