Meeting someone new for the first time can feel uncomfortable. The first session is typically structured to review consent, learn a bit more about you, and journey in your story. Some clients prefer to guide the conversation, but we are happy to ask open-ended questions that will help guide the conversation as well.
We usually recommend starting out with one session every two weeks, but you are welcome to do whatever you feel is best for you! You can also talk with your counsellor and they can recommend a level of frequency that would be best for you.
Parents are required for the first ten minutes of the first appointment and then they have the choice to either stay in the session with the child or wait in the waiting room. After that, a parent is not required to be in the child’s sessions.
